Casino on the Big Screen: Baccarat in Movies

15 Mar 2022

The luxury and mystery around this popular card game has resulted in several appearances of Baccarat in movies.

Just as the game itself is full of twists and thrills as we place our bets, the game of Baccarat enhances the plot of the film in which it appears.

This is Pure Win’s selection of the top 10 movies featuring Baccarat, where the game plays a significant role.

A Hard Day’s Night (1964)

A Hard Day’s Night is a hilarious movie starring none other than the legendary band The Beatles.

The film follows the band’s attempt at performing in London, to where they bring an older man, said to be Paul McCartney’s grandfather, who has a weakness for Baccarat.

Paul’s grandfather attempts to play Baccarat, which creates several funny moments as he has great difficulty understanding the difference between Baccarat and Bingo.

A Hard Day’s Night is one of the best Baccarat movies for anyone who wishes to have a laugh while learning about the game.

The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo (1935)

The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo tells the story of Paul Gaillard, a Russian exiled aristocrat who breaks the bank at the Monte Carlo casino in a run of good luck.

What follows is a romantic story about an honest and kind man, a woman, and a secret plan to make Paul give his newfound riches away.

This is an old classic and one we very much recommend you to watch if you’ve ever dreamt about having lady luck on your side when playing Baccarat!

Rush Hour 3 (2007)

Jackie Chan is an avid gambler, but in Rush Hour 3, it’s his co-actor Chris Tucker who is seen gambling away.

While at a casino in France, Carter spots a beautiful woman at a Baccarat table and decides to join her. Obviously, he has no clue how to play Baccarat (or, in this case, Chemin De Fer) and loses the game.

The moral of the story, always make sure that you know how to play Baccarat before taking your seat at the table!

James Bond and Baccarat

James Bond is no stranger to the extravagant lifestyle of casinos. This secret agent has been seen playing Baccarat on several occasions.

Bond can be seen playing Baccarat in the following movies:

  • Dr. No (1962)

  • Thunderball (1965)

  • On Her Majestys Secret Service (1969)

  • Never Say Never Again (1983)

  • GoldenEye (1995)

Although not part of the James Bond film series, a version of the 007 agents written novel saga is told in Casino Royale (1967).

In this comedy film, no more than six different James Bonds play Baccarat to beat the film’s bad guy, the Russian Le Chiffre.

The 2006 remake starring Daniel Craig exchanged Baccarat for Poker, something that disappointed many James Bond fans.

Simran (2017)

Simran is an Indian movie where we follow Praful Patel as she struggles with the darker side of gambling. We get to follow her as she falls in love with the game of Baccarat on a trip to Las Vegas.

As with many gambling highs, there are lows, and Praful loses all of her money and ends up in financial problems that force her to engage in criminal activity to resolve her debt.

No matter how luxurious the game of Baccarat is, it is important to never play for more than one can afford to lose!
