RR vs CSK Betting Tips & Predictions

19 May 2022
Cricket Betting Prediction

The IPL 22 regular season is coming to a close, but there is still plenty of time to pack in some willow-thudding, seam-scrambling, flying-fielding IPL betting action - starting with a crunch clash for playoff hopefuls Rajasthan Royals against wooden spoon contenders and last year’s champions Chennai Super Kings.

I have put together some RR vs CSK betting tips ahead of the action, which gets underway from 7.30 pm (IST) on Friday 20th May at the Brabourne Stadium in India.

Keep reading below to find the need-to-know statistics, team news, general form of both sides, and my online cricket betting picks ahead of the RR vs CSK game. Keep an eye out for my Third Bet too, for bigger odds!

RR vs CSK Betting Odds

The Chennai Super Kings are a tempting price - it’s hard to ignore anything above 2.0 for any team in the IPL, let alone the defending champions.

However, for my cricket betting tips, I am sticking with the oddsmakers for today’s IPL game - I think the Royals will win comfortably. For more RR vs CSK betting odds, scroll below!

  • Match Winner: Rajasthan Royals

  • Toss Winner: Rajasthan Royals

  • Top RR Batsman: Jos Buttler

RR vs CSK Betting Prediction: Winner

It has been a tragic IPL for CSK fans - the defending champions have been at sixes and sevens all tournament. The handing over of captaincy from MS Dhoni to Ravindra Jadeja at the beginning of the season was a disaster and ended in an embarrassing u-turn when the armband was given back to Dhoni off the back of such poor form.

The Super Kings are locked in a battle with bitter rivals Mumbai Indians to avoid finishing with the wooden spoon. Who would have thought the two most dominant teams in IPL history would be in this position at the beginning of the season? They are an appetizing price at 2.08, but I won’t be touching them for my RR vs CSK betting prediction.

It’s been an entirely more positive campaign for the Rajasthan Royals. Led by leading Orange Cap contender Jos Buttler and current Purple Cap front-runner Yuzvendra Chahal, the Royals find themselves just one win away from making the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

They have the stronger underlying form and I am tipping up Sanju Samson’s charges to win at 1.75 as part of my RR vs CSK betting tips.

Jos Buttler to be Top RR Batsman

How good has the Englishman been this season? The Buttler has served up a veritable treat of stroke-making and heavy-hitting - he is flying headfirst into his first Orange Cap.

He has failed with the bat in his previous two innings against the Lucknow Super Giants and the Delhi Capitals respectively, but his previous five scores read 30 (vs Punjab Kings), 22 (vs Kolkata Knight Riders), 67 (vs Mumbai Indians), 8 (vs Royal Challengers Bangalore), and 116 (vs Delhi Capitals).

The opener averages 52.25 at a strike rate of 148.22, having hit three centuries, three half-centuriesand 37 sixes (the highest number in the tournament). It’s clear why he represents my top RR vs CSK betting prediction outside of the match winner market.

I am going to bet on Buttler to finish top run-scorer for the Royals against the Super Kings at 2.78. It’s hardly the biggest price on a top batter market, but I think Buttler is as reliable as any player to bag a big score and he is my second pick as part of my RR vs CSK betting tips.

RR vs CSK Head to Head

The Chennai Super Kings are one of the most successful teams in the history of the Indian Premier League - it’s no surprise to see them leading the RR vs CSK head to head record 15-11.

I can see the Royals closing the gap here, though.

Venue & Weather Forecast

The Brabourne Stadium hosts its last game of the Indian Premier League. It’s been a favourite haunt for batters in the tournament this season - in 13 of the 15 games played here, the team batting first has posted more than 170 runs.

The last four games at this venue have been won by the team batting first - will the toss-winning skipper use those stats to his advantage?

RR Team News

Team management received a huge boost ahead of the potential playoff-sealing clash - West Indies international Shimron Hetmyer returns to the fold after a period away to tend to his newborn child.

He’s been in great form all season - he boasts the highest average of all batters in the IPL at 72.75, with a strike rate of 166.28.

There are no new injury concerns for team management to worry about - long-term absentee Nathan Coulter-Nile is still in Australia recovering from a side strain and will miss the rest of the season.

CSK Team News

The loss of Deepak Chahar at the start of the IPL has proven devastating to the Chennai Super Kings - the pacer was the leading wicket-taker in the IPL last season, and the lack of guaranteed wickets is hurting the Super Kings.

Elsewhere, Ravindra Jadeja is missing the rest of the IPL with a bruised rib - the injury capping a miserable campaign for the Indian all-rounder.

There is no other CSK team news to report.

Conclusion

The Rajasthan Royals have the better form on an individual and collective basis, and all the conventional wisdom points to an easy win for the inaugural IPL winners.

The CSK are missing key players and have poor morale - my RR vs CSK betting tips revolve around a win for the Royals.
